Filipino-American History Month Flyer
Event Flyer Project
I was tasked to make a prototype event poster for Grand Canyon University. It could have been any event happening within the school year, official or unofficial.
Sketches and Inspiration
I sketched out 36 thumbnail sketches of different events that have or haven't been on campus to give me a variety of designs to choose from. I had peers help me critique my sketches and chose their favorite designs. A majority of the class had picked #10 as one of their favorites, and it was one of my favorite designs too.

The poster design would be used for a Filipino-American History Month Festival that GCU has yet to host. As a Filipino-American, it is important my culture and heritage is able to be seen appropriately in media, so I wanted to create a culturally significant poster that also appeals to college students of all backgrounds.
FAHM is in October, and it just so happens to coincide with the MassKara Festival of Bacolod City in the Philippines. Known as "The Festival of Smiles", it is celebrated by wearing elaborate smiling masks often paired with equally elaborate clothing in Mardi Gras/Carnival-styled parades.
Final Design and Mockups
The poster design uses the MassKara mask as its main subject, and the design features both Filipino and American icons for FAHM. This makes up the top half of the poster, and this leaves the bottom half for the festival's information. A light purple Filipino sun on a dark purple background keeps the bottom half from being completely empty.
